An Introduction to Honey Bees and Beekeeping
https://mp.gg/xfxdn (Click here to register!)
Attend the MABA Short Course online to learn the fundamentals of beekeeping from our panel of experts. We welcome anyone who is interested in learning about honey bees, even if a hive is not in your immediate future.
Setting up new hives must be done in the spring, generally from March to May. This course is offered in January to give potential beekeepers time to order bees and equipment and prepare a site for hives.
Due to Covid-19 we are not able to host a large group in person, so we are offering this year’s course on Zoom, at a reduced rate. You’ll get the same amazing instructors who are leaders in the beekeeping community, but will attend from the comfort of home. One of the things people love about our course is having lunch with an experienced beekeeper. You’ll still have this opportunity as we will set up breakout rooms so you can eat your sandwich with a small group of participants while chatting with a beekeeper!
During the spring and summer months, hands-on experience with live bees will be available to all participants through the MABA Hive Inspection program. At MABA Hive Inspections, small groups go through a beehive with an experienced beekeeper in one of several MABA hive locations in the Atlanta area.
For those participants not in the Atlanta area, your course fee includes a bee club membership with your local club. Each club operates differently, but your club will have mentoring opportunities to help you on your way to becoming a beekeeper. You’ll also be able to participate in MABA’s online hive inspections from anywhere.

Can children enroll?
We don’t have a firm age limit. This is an all day classroom course for people who want to learn how to keep bees. It is up to you to determine if your child would be comfortable in this format.
Are there discounts for families/seniors/etc?
In the past we weren’t able to give family discounts due to limitations for seating and cost of meals covered by the course fee, but now that it is online you are welcome to have other family members join you on one computer to view the course! However, you only get one sign-on per registration so you can’t be on multiple devices. We do not offer discounts for seniors or other groups.
What’s the cancellation policy?
Since it’s an online course and the sessions will be available to watch for two weeks after the date, we are unable to offer cancellations.
