Hive Inspections
Jim Ovbey and DuRant Warwick conducting a hive inspection in 2007. From time-to-time hive inspections are scheduled in The Apiary at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The purpose of these inspections is to help both new and experienced beekeepers learn how to inspect their own hives, to observe honey bee behaviors, and to identify common problems. General beekeeping questions and Integrated Pest Management practices are also discussed. These inspections are conducted by experienced beekeepers. The inspections are about one to one and one-half hours long. Advance registration is required. Register for a Hive Inspection. Registered participants must provide their own protective gear including a hat and bee veil, gloves, and bee suit or long sleeved white shirt. Those who do not have protective clothing will not be allowed to enter the Apiary. In addition, wear long pants, socks, and closed shoes. You may also want to bring cold water to drink. 2008 Hive Inspection Schedule
