Our annual potluck and honey show is going to be so much fun! Like last year, we’ll have a bluegrass band, “Bound to Ramble”, BBQ and an awesome potluck dinner, mead tasting with Monk’s Mead, and wrap up the evening with the Honey Show awards and a fun live auction. Due to several huge donations of equipment, we are bringing back the silent auction. This is your chance to get some great equipment and beekeeping novelties at great prices.

New this year is a smoker lighting contest. You bring your smoker, fuel, and lighter, and fire it up between 4:00 and 4:15. The last smoker still smoking at the end of the evening wins a year membership! Note: you may use an 8″ or a 10″ smoker, not the large commercial type.

If you haven’t already, please go to our website to view the honey show rules and see all the categories that you can enter. At the very least, everyone should enter the Black Jar contest. This is any amount of honey in any container, and is judged soley on taste. Besides honey, there are classes for baked goods and candies, artwork, sewing, and even gadgets! In addition to ribbons, there are cash awards. Each catagory can win $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third. (Excepting Black Jar and Novice, which only has a first place awarded.) Best in show wins $250!

Bobby Chaisson of Georgia Bee Removal is donating five full sized colonies of bees for our live auction. You don’t have to wait until next spring to grow your apiary if you win some of these bees! Other auction items are a private mentoring session at your apiary with expert beekeeper Mickey Anderson, a Flow Hive, and an extractor.

This event is BYOB, and please RSVP so we’ll have enough ‘que for everyone! Feel free to bring guests, just know that only members with dues up-to-date can enter the honey contest, and don’t forget to bring a dish to share.

Here’s the schedule:
4:00 Doors open
4:00-4:15 Light your smokers
4:00-5:00 Drop off Honey Show entries In order to let the judges have adequate time to evaluate all the entries, you won’t be able to enter anything if you arrive after 5:00! Please understand that late entries won’t be accepted. Seriously.

5:30 Dinner (please bring a dish to share, the club will provide BBQ)
6:30 Silent Auction closes
6:45 Live Auction
7:00 Honey Show awards announced

While we love our montly meetings, they don’t lend themselves to socializing. Don’t miss this opportunity to get to know your fellow beekeepers, enter the honey show (and win prizes!) and pick up some goods at the auction.
